Storage spaces

The warning triangle is located in the compartment on the inside of the tailgate.

Folding up the warning triangle

1. Open the hatch by first turning the knob a quarter turn and then pulling the hatch from its brackets in the top and bottom edges.
2. Press the latch that secures the warning triangle slightly to the right and remove the case.
3. Remove the warning triangle from the case, unfold it, and put the ends together.
4. Fold out the warning triangle’s support legs.
5. Follow the regulations for the use of a warning triangle.
6. Position the warning triangle in a suitable place with regard to traffic.
7. Make sure that the warning triangle and case are properly secured in their storage space and that the hatch is fully closed after use.

1. Press the key’s button.
2. The tailgate is unlocked and can be opened from the outside.
3. The side doors are still locked and the alarm is armed.
4. The lock and alarm indicator on the instrument panel extinguish in order to show that the entire car is not locked.
5. If the tailgate is not opened within 2 minutes then it is relocked and the alarm is re-armed.

Power operated tailgate

• Hold the key’s button depressed for a couple of seconds.
• The tailgate is unlocked and opened, while the side doors remain locked and their alarm functions are armed.

NoteIf the system for the power-operated tailgate works continuously for a long time, it is deactivated in order not to overload it. It can be used again after a few minutes.

Setting the max. opening for electrically operated tailgate

Set the amount the tailgate should be opened if the car is, for example, parked in a garage with limited headroom.

To adjust max. opening

1. Open the tailgate manually – and stop it in the desired opening position.
2. Press and hold the button on the bottom of the tailgate for approx. 3 seconds.
3. Two acoustic signals sound to indicate that the set position has been saved.

NoteIt is not possible to program an opening position lower than a half-open tailgate.

Reset max. opening

• Open the tailgate manually to the fully open position.
• Press and hold the button on the underside of the tailgate for approx. 3 seconds.
• Two acoustic signals sound to indicate that the set position has been cleared.

Operating the tailgate with foot movement

The tailgate can be opened and closed using foot movement under the rear bumper. The function makes things easier when your hands are full.

If the car is equipped with keyless locking and unlocking then you can unlock the tailgate with a foot movement.
The function with both opening and closing of the tailgate is also available when the car is equipped with a power-operated tailgate.

NoteThe foot-operated tailgate function is available in two versions:

• Opening and closing with foot movement
• Only unlocking with foot movement (lift up the tailgate manually to open it)

Note that the function for opening and closing with foot movement requires a power-operated tailgate.

The detector is located on the left-hand side of the bumper.
One of the car’s keys must be within range behind the car, approx. 1 meter (3 feet). This also applies when the car is unlocked.

Opening and closing with foot movement

1. Kicking motion within the detector’s activation area.
2. Make one forward kicking motion under the left part of the rear bumper.
3. The bumper must not be touched. Then take a step back.
4. A short acoustic signal sounds when the tailgate is opened/closed.
5. If several kicking motions are made without a key within range, the function is deactivated after a while.
6. Do not leave your foot positioned under the car during the kicking motion. The activation may then fail.

Canceling opening or closing with foot movement

Make one forward kicking motion while opening or closing is in progress in order to stop the movement of the tailgate.

The key does not need to be in range to cancel opening or closing.
If the tailgate is stopped just before being fully closed, it will open on the next activation.

NoteMake sure you keep the area around the foot movement detector clean. A build-up of dirt, ice, or snow may disrupt its function.

NotePay attention to the possibility that the system may be activated in a car wash if the key is within range.

Cars with the skid plate accessory

If the car is equipped with a skid plate the sensor is located out on the left-hand corner of the bumper.

To activate opening or closing with a foot movement on a car equipped with a skid plate, the kicking motion is made from the side of the car. One of the car’s keys must be within range, approx. 1 meter (3 feet).

Unlocking the tailgate from inside of the car

The tailgate can be unlocked from inside the car using a button beside the steering wheel on the instrument panel.

1. Briefly press the button on the instrument panel.
2. The tailgate is unlocked and can be opened from the outside.
3. With the power-operated tailgate option:
4. Hold the instrument panel’s button depressed for a couple of seconds.
5. The tailgate is opened.

NoteIf the system for the power-operated tailgate works continuously for a long time, it is deactivated in order not to overload it. It can be used again after a few minutes.

Keyless unlocking of the tailgate

With keyless locking and unlocking, it is sufficient to press lightly on the rubberized pressure plate underneath the tailgate handle to unlock.

Note

1. One of the car’s keys must be within range behind the car for unlocking to work.
2. The tailgate is held closed by an electrical lock.
3. To open:
4. Press gently on the rubberized pressure plate beneath the tailgate handle.
5. The lock is released.
6. Lift by the outside handle in order to open the tailgate.

Important

• Handle the rubber panel with care to avoid damage to its electrical contact. Minimal force is required for activation.
• Do not exert the lifting force on the rubber panel when opening – lift the handle.

It is also possible to unlock the tailgate with a foot movement under the rear bumper, see separate section.

Warning

Do not drive with an open tailgate! Toxic exhaust fumes could be drawn into the car through the cargo area.

Fuses in the cargo area

Fuses in the cargo area protect, amongst other things, power seats, airbags, and seatbelt tensioners.

1. The central electrical unit is located under the storage compartment on the right-hand side.
2. The fuse box in the engine compartment also provides space for several spare fuses.

Positions

Fuse locations are shown on the inside of the cover. Functions and components in the fuse table cover several models and engine alternatives. A fuse description can therefore apply to fewer than those in the table, or be completely missing, depending on how the car is equipped.

If a position has several values in the table, the value depends on variations in equipment level. In which case, follow the value of the fuse being replaced. In the event of doubt – contact a workshop. An authorised Volvo workshop is recommended.
