RECOVERY METHOD

CAUTION

Make sure that vehicle recovery/transportation is carried out by suitably qualified personnel and that the vehicle is secured correctly. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.

CAUTION

The recovery agent must activate the transmission park release before recovery starts. Transmission park release information is covered in a separate publication for recovery personnel. Failure to activate the transmission park release can result in serious transmission damage.

CAUTION

Only use the lashing points or over-wheel lashings. Lashing over the body or suspension is not permissible as settling of the suspension will cause the lashing straps to slacken. Incorrect lashing may result in vehicle damage or personal injury.

CAUTION

During vehicle recovery, the smart key must remain inside the vehicle. In addition, the ignition must be switched on to make sure that the steering column is unlocked. The method for recovery or transportation of the vehicle is on a transporter or trailer designed for that purpose.

NOTES

If the vehicle’s battery is to be disconnected, the steering column must be unlocked first. The steering column cannot be unlocked with the 12 V battery disconnected.

FRONT TOWING EYE

WARNING

The towing point at the front of the vehicle is designed for on-road recovery only. If it is used for any other purpose it may result in vehicle damage and serious injury.

WARNING

Use extreme caution when moving or towing the vehicle. Death or serious injury may occur.

WARNING

Use extreme caution when detaching towing equipment. Vehicle movement is possible which can result in serious injury.

CAUTION

Only tow the vehicle in a forward direction with all four wheels on the ground. Towing in a reverse direction or with only two wheels on the ground will cause serious damage to the transmission.

CAUTION

Do not tow the vehicle for more than 30 miles (50 km). Do not exceed 30 mph (50 km/h). Towing for a greater distance or at a higher speed may result in serious damage to the transmission.

The front towing eye is located in the luggage compartment, depending on specification, as follows:

  • For vehicles with spare tires, the towing eye is located in the vehicle’s tool kit. See WHEEL CHANGING.
  • For convertible vehicles, without a spare tire, the towing eye is located in the tire repair kit. See TIRE REPAIR SYSTEM.
  • For coupe vehicles, without a spare tire, the towing eye is located alongside the vehicle’s battery. To access the towing eye, remove the battery cover located on the left side of the trunk.

    NOTES

Pass the vehicle’s wheel brace through the towing eye, to act as a lever to help tighten the towing eye until it is completely tight.
