Gear selector inhibitor
The gear selector inhibitor prevents accidental changing between different gear positions in an automatic gearbox. To switch gear position, the brake pedal has to be depressed. The lever can always be moved back and forth, but the brake pedal has to be depressed to change gear position.
Message in the driver display
If the gear selector is inhibited a message is shown in the driver display, e.g. Press the brake pedal to activate gear lever. The gear selector is not inhibited mechanically.(Applies to cars with a small gear lever)
