Brake fluid specifications

The medium in the hydraulic brake system is called brake fluid and is used to transfer braking force from e.g. pressure on the brake pedal via a master brake cylinder to one or more slave cylinders, which in turn act on a mechanical brake.

Recommended grade: Brake fluid meeting a combination of Dot 45.1 and ISO 4925 class 6.

NOTE

Changing or filling brake fluid should be entrusted to an authorized workshop.

Coolant

The coolant cools components connected to the vehicle’s electric propulsion, and the excess heat can be used to heat the high-voltage battery or the passenger compartment.

Recommended grade: Polestar-approved premixed coolant.

Contact Polestar Customer Support as soon as possible in the event of a warning for too-low or too-high coolant level.

IMPORTANT

2022-Polestar-2-Space-under-hood-fig- (6)

Do not remove the panels around the storage space under the hood. Do not open the coolant tank cap and do not add any fluids. This could cause damage that is not covered by the warranty.

Only a workshop may fill coolant – contact Polestar Customer Support.

WARNING

Coolant is hazardous if ingested and could cause damage to organs (kidneys). The product contains ethylene glycol, inhibitor, emetic, water, etc.

Filling washer fluid

Washer fluid is used to help keep the windshield clean. Washer fluid containing anti-freeze should be used in very cold weather (below-freezing temperatures).
2022-Polestar-2-Space-under-hood-fig- (1)

Fill washer fluid into the reservoir with the blue cover. The reservoir has a volume of 3.7 quarts (3.5 liters).

NOTE

When there is approximately 1 liter (1 qt) of washer fluid remaining, the message Refill washer fluid, level lowand the 2022-Polestar-2-Windshield-and-rear-window-Owners-Manual-Fig-6 symbol will be displayed in the instrument panel.

Recommended grade: Washer fluid recommended by Polestar, with frost protection during cold weather and temperatures below the freezing point.

IMPORTANT

Use washer fluid with the recommended pH value between 6 and 8, diluted as recommended, e.g. in a 1:1 solution with pH-neutral water.

IMPORTANT

Use washer fluid with anti-freeze when temperatures are below the freezing point to help keep the pump, reservoir and hoses from freezing.

Opening and closing the hood

To open the hood, pull the lever in the passenger compartment and then turn the handle under the front edge of the hood. It is important to follow the instructions for closing and check to make sure the hood is closed completely if it has been open.
