2022 Polestar 2 Keyless locking and unlocking

Antenna locations for the start and lock system

Antennas for the keyless starting and locking systems are integrated in the vehicle.

Antenna locations for Digital Key:

In the lower section of the tunnel console on the passenger side

Antenna locations for the keyless system:

In the storage compartment in the tunnel console
In the upper front section of the left-side rear door
In the upper front section of the right-side rear door
In the cargo compartment
WARNING

Individuals with an implanted pacemaker should not allow the pacemaker to come within 22 cm (9 in.) of the locking systems’ antennas. The aim of this is to prevent disturbances between the pacemaker and the locking systems.

Closing and locking the tailgate using the buttons

The buttons on the underside of the tailgate can be used to close and lock the vehicle automatically.
NOTE

When operating the tailgate manually, open and close it slowly. If you encounter resistance, do not use force. This could lead to damage and loss of function.

Closing

  • Press the button on the lower edge of the tailgate.

> The tailgate will close automatically and remain unlocked.

NOTE
  • The button remains active 24 hours after the tailgate was opened. After this time, the tailgate must be closed manually.
  • If the tailgate has been open for more than 30 minutes, it will automatically close slowly.

Closing and locking

  • Press the button on the lower edge of the tailgate.

> The tailgate closes automatically and the vehicle is lockedAll doors must be closed for the vehicle to be locked. .

NOTE
  • One of the vehicle’s keys must be within range for locking and unlocking to be possible.
  • When locking or closing is requested, three audible signals will sound if the key is not detected close enough to the tailgate.
Interrupting closing
  • Press the button on the dashboard.
  • Press the button on the key.
  • Press the close button on the lower edge of the tailgate.
  • Press the tailgate handle.
  • Using a foot movement*.

Tailgate movement is interrupted and stops. The tailgate can then be opened or closed manually.

If the tailgate stops near the closed position, it will open the next time it is activated.

Pinch protectionIf anything obstructs the tailgate with enough force to prevent it from opening or closing, pinch protection will be activated.
  • When opening – the tailgate will stop moving and a long audible signal will sound.
  • When closing – the tailgate will stop, a long audible signal will sound and the tailgate will return to the programmed maximum opening position.
WARNING
  • Be aware of the risk of injury when opening and closing.
  • Before opening or closing, make sure that no one is near the tailgate’s range of motion. Serious injury could occur.
  • Always operate the tailgate with caution.
Preloaded springs
WARNING

Do not open the preloaded springs. They are preloaded with high pressure and could cause injury or damage if opened.

Keyless door locking and unlocking

With keyless unlocking, the doors can be opened by grasping the door handle.
NOTE

One of the vehicle’s keys must be within range for locking and unlocking to be possible.

  1. Pressure-sensitive indentation for locking.
  2. Pressure-sensitive surface for unlocking.
  • Touch the button on the handle or grasp the handle.

> The vehicle will lock or unlock.

NOTE

Please be aware that the system could be activated in a car wash if the key is within range.

Automatic relocking

If none of the doors are opened within two minutes after being unlocked, they will automatically relock. This function reduces the risk of inadvertently leaving the vehicle unlocked.

Keyless locking and unlocking

With the keyless locking and unlocking function, the key only needs to be within range, e.g. in a pocket or bag, in order to unlock the doors and tailgate. The vehicle can be locked or unlocked by touching the door handle.
NOTE

Please be aware that the system could be activated in a car wash if the key is within range.

Keyless opening and closing of the tailgate using a foot movement*

To make it easier to operate the tailgate when your hands are full, it can be opened and closed by moving your foot in a forward kicking motion under the bumper.
NOTE

One of the vehicle’s keys must be within range for locking and unlocking to be possible.


The sensor is located under the center of the rear bumper.

One of the vehicle’s keys must be within range behind the vehicle, approx. 1 meter (3 feet), for opening to be possible. This applies even if the vehicle is unlocked in order to prevent the trunk lid from inadvertently opening e.g. at a car wash.

Foot movement operation


Kicking motion within the sensor’s activation area.
  • Make one forward kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper.
  • Take one step back, without touching the bumper.

> A brief audible signal will sound when opening or closing is activated – the tailgate will open/close.

If several opening or closing attempts have been made without the key in range behind the vehicle, foot movement operation will not be available for a short period of time.

Do not keep your foot under the vehicle in a kicking motion. This may prevent activation.

Interrupting opening or closing using a foot movement

  • Make one slow forward kicking motion while the tailgate is opening or closing to stop its movement.

The remote key does not need to be within range of the vehicle to interrupt opening or closing.

If the tailgate stops near the closed position, it will open the next time it is activated.

NOTE

There is a risk of reduced or lost function if there are large amounts of snow, ice, dirt, etc. on the left-hand rear bumper. Make sure to keep the bumper clean.

NOTE

Please note that the system could be inadvertently activated in a car wash or similar if the key is within range.

Keyless tailgate unlocking

With keyless locking and unlocking, the tailgate can be unlocked by lightly touching the rubberized button on the tailgate handle.
NOTE

One of the vehicle’s keys must be within range behind the vehicle for unlocking to be possible.


The handle is located under the tailgate.
  • Lightly press the rubberized pressure plate on the underside of the tailgate handle.

> The tailgate is now unlocked.

IMPORTANT
  • Only light pressure on the rubberized pressure plate is necessary to release the tailgate’s locking mechanism.
  • Use the handle to lift the tailgate and do not apply force to the rubberized pressure plate. Too much force can damage the pressure plate’s electrical connections.

Setting a maximum opening height for the tailgate

The tailgate can be set to stop opening at a certain height, for example if the tailgate needs to be opened in a garage with a low ceiling.

Setting max opening height

  • Open the tailgate to the desired opening height.
  • Press the button on the lower edge of the tailgate and hold for about 3 seconds.

> Two brief audio signals will sound to indicate that the position has been stored.

NOTE

Halfway open is the lowest possible opening height setting for the tailgate.

Resetting to maximum opening position

  • Open the tailgate to its fully open position.
  • Press the button on the lower edge of the tailgate and hold for about 3 seconds.

> Two brief audio signals will sound to indicate that the stored position has been erased.

NOTE

If the system has been operating continuously for a long time, it will shut down to avoid overload. It can be used again after about 2 minutes.
