- The door’s knob control only locks that specific door, not both rear doors simultaneously.

When the child lock is activated, the rear
- windows can only be opened using the buttons in the driver’s door
- the doors cannot be opened from the inside.
If the child lock is activated when the vehicle is switched off, the function will remain activated the next time the vehicle is started.

Digital Key
Activating Digital Key
The Polestar app is available for iOS and Android. Download it free of charge from Apple Appstore or Google Play. Make sure the phone has been connected to the vehicle before Digital Key is activated.
- Log in to the app with your Polestar ID.
- Activate Digital Key via settings in the app.
Key
The key has four buttons, one on the left side and three on the right.
- Locking – Press the button once to lock the doors and the tailgate and arm the alarm.
- Press and hold the button to close all windows.
- Unlocking – Press the button once to unlock doors and tailgate and disarm the alarm.
- Press and hold to open all windows, for example, to air out the vehicle quickly in hot weather.
- Tailgate – Press the button to unlock the tailgate and disarm the alarm.
- Press and hold the button to open the tailgate. Press and hold to close an open tailgate (an audible warning signal will be given).
- Panic alarm – Used to attract attention in emergency situations. Press and hold the button for at least 3 seconds or press twice within 3 seconds to activate the turn signals and horn. To deactivate, wait at least 5 seconds and press the button again. If no action is taken, the panic alarm will deactivate automatically after 3 minutes.
If anyone is left in the vehicle, make sure that power to the power windows is cut off by always taking the key with you when you leave the vehicle.
Be aware of the risk of locking the key in the vehicle.
- If the key is left in the vehicle, it will be deactivated when the vehicle is locked and the alarm set using another valid key. The key will be reactivated when the vehicle is unlocked.
The key tag works in the same way as the regular key for keyless start, locking, and unlocking
The key is waterproof up to a depth of approx. 10 meters (30 feet) for up to 60 minutes. It does not have a detachable key blade and its battery cannot be replaced.
Interference
Electromagnetic fields or obstructing objects may interfere with the key’s functions for keyless start and keyless locking and unlocking.
Avoid storing the key near metal objects or electronic devices, e.g. phones, tablets, laptops or chargers – preferably no closer than 10-15 cm (4-6 in.). If you experience interference, use the key’s detachable blade to unlock the vehicle and then place the key in the backup reader in the tunnel console cupholder to disarm the alarm and start the vehicle. When the key is placed in the cupholder, make sure there are no other vehicle keys, metal objects or electronic devices (e.g. phones, tablets, laptops or chargers) in the cupholder. Multiple vehicle keys close to each other in the cup holder can disrupt their functionality.

Operating, servicing, and maintaining a passenger vehicle can expose you to chemicals including engine exhaust, carbon monoxide, phthalates, and lead, which are known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. To minimize exposure, avoid breathing exhaust, do not idle the engine except as necessary, service your vehicle in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves or wash your hands frequently when servicing your vehicle. Locking
- The turn signals will flash once and the door mirrors will fold in to confirm the vehicle is locked.
Unlocking
- The turn signals will flash twice and the door mirrors will fold out to confirm the vehicle is unlocked.
All doors, tailgate and hood must be closed for confirmation to be given.
Lock and alarm indicators on the dashboard
The locks and alarm indicator will display the status of the locking system:
- One long flash indicates locking.
- When the vehicle is locked, this will be indicated by short, pulsating flashes.
- Rapid flashing after disabling the alarm indicates that the alarm has been triggered.
Front door
Illuminated indicator lights in both front door lock buttons indicate that all doors are locked. If any door is opened, the lights in both doors will go out.
Rear door
Illuminated indicator lights in each door indicate that that particular door is locked. If any door is unlocked, the indicator light in that door will go out. The lights in the other doors will remain illuminated.
Other indicators
The approach lighting and welcome lighting functions may be activated when locking and unlocking.
Locking and unlocking
These are:
- with the buttons on the key
- keyless – a key must be within range
- keyless with Digital Key in a phone
- from inside the vehicle using the lock controls in the doors
- remote unlocking with the Polestar app
- with the detachable key blade – e.g. if the key’s battery is discharged
- automatic locking when the vehicle starts driving.
For safety reasons, all of the vehicle’s doors will unlock in the event of a collision. This will only happen if one or more of the safety systems has been triggered.

Locking and unlocking using the key
Locking using the key
- Press the button on the key to lock the vehicle.
To activate the locking sequence, all doors must be closed. If any door or the tailgate is open, they will be locked and the alarm will be armed once they are closed.
Be aware of the risk of locking the key in the vehicle.
- If the key is left in the vehicle, it will be deactivated when the vehicle is locked and the alarm set using another valid key. The key will be reactivated when the vehicle is unlocked.
Locking when the tailgate is open
If the vehicle is locked and the tailgate is still open, make sure that the key is not left in the cargo compartment when the tailgate is closed and the entire vehicle is locked.
Unlocking using the key
- Press the button on the key to unlock the vehicle.
Automatic relocking
If none of the doors or tailgate are opened within two minutes after being unlocked, they will automatically relock. This function reduces the risk of inadvertently leaving the vehicle unlocked.
Key not working
Move closer to the vehicle and try to unlock it again. If the key is not working to lock or unlock the vehicle, its battery may be discharged. Use the detachable key blade to lock/unlock the driver’s door instead.
Locking and unlocking with a detachable key blade
Unlocking
The alarm will be triggered when the vehicle is unlocked using the key blade.
- Pull the front left-hand door handle to its end position to access the lock cylinder.
- Put the key in the lock cylinder.
- Turn the key clockwise 45 degrees so that the key blade is pointing straight rearward.
- Turn the key blade back 45 degrees to its original position. Remove the key from the lock cylinder and release the handle so that it returns to its original position against the vehicle.\
- Pull the door handle.
The door will open.
When the door is unlocked using the detachable key blade and then opened, the alarm will be triggered.
Locking
The doors have a lock mechanism in the side of the door that must be pushed in using the key blade. The door will then be locked mechanically and cannot be opened from the outside. The doors can still be opened from inside.
Manual door lock.
- Remove the detachable key blade from the key. Insert the key blade into the opening for the lock mechanism and push the key in as far as possible, about 12 mm (0.5 in).

- The door’s lock controls only lock that specific door, not all doors simultaneously.
- A manually locked rear door with an activated child lock cannot be opened from either the inside or the outside. The door can only be unlocked using the buttons on the key, the central locking button or Polestar Connect.
Unlocking the tailgate from inside the vehicle
- Press the button on the dashboard.
The tailgate is unlocked and can be opened from the outside using the handle under the tailgate. - Press and hold the button on the dashboard.
The tailgate will open.
Unlocking the tailgate using the key
- Press the button on the key.
The tailgate will be unlocked but remain closed.
The side doors remain locked and armed. The lock and alarm indicator on the dashboard will go out to indicate that the vehicle is no longer fully locked.
If the tailgate is not opened within approximately 2 minutes, it will be relocked and the alarm armed.
- Press and hold the button on the key.
The tailgate will unlock and open. However, the side doors will remain locked and armed.
Use Digital Key
If the phone’s battery is discharged, the Digital Key function is not available. Charge the phone or use a regular key instead.
Locking and unlocking using Digital Key
- The vehicle detects Digital Key when the phone is within an arm’s length from the doors or tailgate.
- The keyless unlocking and locking function works just like a regular key. Grasp the handle and wait until the vehicle unlocks, or touch the pressure-sensitive indentation on the handle to lock the vehicle.
- The tailgate can also be opened with a foot movement when a phone with Digital Key is within range.
Starting the vehicle using Digital Key
The vehicle is started as usual when a phone with Digital Key is inside the vehicle.
Troubleshooting problems with Digital Key
If you cannot perform keyless unlocking or locking with Digital Key:
- Hold the phone in your hand, point it at the vehicle, and try again. The phone’s signal can be blocked or obstructed by other objects, for example if it is stored in a bag or near metal items or other electronics.
- Try unlocking or locking the vehicle using the buttons in the app.
If you cannot start the vehicle using Digital Key:
- Place the phone near or on the wireless charging pad, where it has very good conditions for connection. The phone’s signal can be blocked or obstructed by other objects, for example if it is stored in a bag or near metal items or other electronics.
If you experience problems with Digital Key:
- Make sure that Bluetooth is activated and that the phone is connected to the vehicle.
- Make sure that the app has access to requested phone functions, e.g. location services.
- Make sure that the app is not closed down or limited in the phone due to e.g. battery-saving settings.
- Make sure the Digital Key function is not deactivated in the app’s settings.
- Try temporarily disconnecting Wi-Fi, as some networks may obstruct authentication of the digital key.
- Restart the app or the phone.
- Check to see if there is a more recent version of the app and update it if possible.
