Connecting the Polestar 1 app to the vehicle

To be able to use the Polestar 1 services, the app must first be linked to the vehicle.
This procedure must be carried out in the vehicle.
  • Make sure your vehicle is positioned in an area with coverage and that your mobile device has an internet connection.
NOTE

Make sure that Vehicle Modem Internet is not selected as the Internet source in the vehicle. If it is selected, step 5 will not be possible and the app will not be able to link to the vehicle.

  • Make sure that you have your four-digit Polestar Connect PIN code, your Polestar ID and the vehicle identification number (VIN) with you before you start. The Polestar ID can be created by logging in to the Polestar 1 app, and the vehicle identification number can be found in the windshield, in the center display, etc.
  • Sit in the driver’s seat with your phone and switch on the vehicle’s ignition.
  • Log in to the Polestar 1 app using your Polestar ID and then follow the instructions in the app.
  • When the message instructing you to press the ON CALL button is displayed in the Polestar 1 app, wait a few seconds before pressing the button to ensure that the vehicle is in verification mode.
  • Confirm the connection between the app and your vehicle by quickly pressing the ON CALL button in the roof of the vehicle once (do not hold the button in).

> You can now begin using the Polestar 1 app’s services.

Tips when using the Polestar 1 appIf you experience disruptions with the Polestar 1 app even though the car to which the app is linked is outdoors in an open location with cellular coverage and your mobile device has a good Internet connection, try reinstalling the app on your mobile device.

If the vehicle was previously owned, however, you should first check whether the Polestar Connect service is activated in the vehicle.

For further information, contact Polestar Customer Support.

Data sharing for Polestar Connect

  • Data sharing is enabled by default for Polestar Connect. This means that you do not need to enable data sharing for the service when you purchase a new vehicle or e.g. after a factory reset.
  • You can choose to disable data sharing for Polestar Connect. Note that most Polestar Connect functions need to be able to share data in order for you to use them. If you have connected your vehicle to the Polestar 1 app, a notification will be displayed in the app if the data sharing function is disabled for the service.
  • The data sharing settings are only enabled by default for your Polestar Connect. Data sharing will remain disabled for your other connected services and downloaded apps and will need to be enabled in order to be used.

Devices compatible with the Polestar 1 app

  • The Polestar 1 app is compatible with various mobile devices and operating systems.
  • The Polestar 1 app is available for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch as well as Android phones and wearables. You can download the app for free from Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • For the Polestar 1 app to work as well as possible, ensure that you have updated the app to the latest version available for your device. More information on technical requirements concerning version, as well as operating systems and compatibility for device models, is available when downloading apps.
NOTE

Polestar reserves the right to end the maintenance of older versions of apps and remove them from existing app stores at any time.

Internet connection

Because the app communicates with the vehicle via the Internet, your mobile device must have an Internet connection to perform your commands.

Displaying the vehicle identification number in the Polestar 1 app

When contacting Polestar Customer Support about e.g. a Polestar Connect subscription, you will need to provide your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). One way to find this is through the Polestar 1 app.
  • Go to the Vehicle tab.
  • Select Vehicle information.
  • Read under Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Driving journal with the Polestar 1 app

The Polestar 1 app can automatically create a drive log which allows you to view a summary of your vehicle journeys. The data is visible from all the accounts connected to the vehicle.

Registration of trip informationThe trip information is sent to the Polestar 1 app 30-60 seconds after the vehicle key has been removed. If you restart the engine within this time to continue driving, the journey that was in progress before the engine was switched off continues. In case of longer stops, e.g. refueling at a fuel station, two trips will be logged. You have the possibility to merge multiple trips into one via the app.

The travel information can be downloaded and saved in Excel, a useful function if, for example, you have a company car.

> The following information about the selected trip appears in the app:

  • Electricity consumption
  • Electrical regeneration
  • Started (time when journey was started)
  • Finished (time when journey was finished)
  • Odometer reading

Electric power functions in the Polestar 1 app

Battery and charge status

To view current battery level and get an estimate of how long you can drive on the existing charge:

  • Go to the home tab.
  • Select Battery chargingor Fuel range.

  • Range (miles): Estimate of how far you can drive on the battery alone.
  • Charge status: Indicates whether the charging cable is connected or not.
  • Vehicle’s location.

My charging locationsThe Polestar 1 app helps you find the nearest charging station and allows you to save eight charging locations in a favorites list. You can also make the following settings for each charging location:

  • Add a reminder about charging if you stop at a charging location in your favorites list without charging.
  • Message when charging is interrupted, e.g. due to power outage.

Settings for my charging locations

To create unique settings for your favorite charging locations:

  • Go to the home tab.
  • Select Battery chargingor Fuel range.
  • Select a charging location (or add a new one).

> You can define settings for your charging stations here by enabling or disabling charging reminders.

PreconditioningYou can control the vehicle’s air conditioning from the app and cool or heat the passenger compartment to the desired temperature. To cool down your vehicle it needs to be plugged in.

To set preconditioning:

  • Go to the home tab.
  • Select Parking heater/Parking climate.
  • Program Timer 1and Timer 2 by selecting the time you want Preconditioning to be complete.

> The vehicle heats up or cools down the passenger compartment to achieve the desired indoor temperature. The desired temperature is the current setting you made for your climate system.

You can also control the climate with instant actions from the app. Tap Startor Stopunder Parking heater/Parking climate. These commands cancel any set timers.

Entering a vehicle nickname in the Polestar 1 app

You can specify or change the name of your vehicle in the Polestar 1 app.
  • Go to the Vehicle tab.
  • Select Vehicle information.
  • Under Nickname, tap Change.
  • Enter a name and then tap Save.

Finding the vehicle using the Polestar 1 app

In the Polestar 1 app, you can see the location of your vehicle on a map. The map also shows your own position, i.e. the position of your mobile device. You can use the app to command the vehicle to honk the horn and/or flash the turn signals to make it easier to find the vehicle.

Finding the vehicle using the Lights & Horn function

  • Go to the Map tab.
  • Your position as well as your vehicle’s position are marked on the map.
  • If you need further assistance to see the vehicle, for example in a large parking lot, you can get it to honk and/or flash by selecting one of the following:
    • Lights to flash.
    • Lights and horn to both honk and flash.

This activates the vehicle’s horn and/or the hazard warning flashers for a few seconds. The function works within a radius of approximately 500 meters (547 yards) from the vehicle.

Limitations for locating the vehicle with the Polestar 1 appIf the Polestar 1 app does not show an exact position for the vehicle, this may be due to the following:

  • The vehicle’s current location has poor or no view for GPS, e.g. in a garage. If this is the case, the last received location is used as its approximate location.
  • The vehicle could not send data to the Polestar Connect servers when you last parked it. The position is sent to Polestar every time you park the vehicle. If the vehicle does not have any cell phone coverage, the last position has not been registered and it will not seen in the app either. This can occur if the vehicle is parked in e.g. a garage with poor cellular reception.
  • Polestar Connect use GPS technology to locate the vehicle. The GPS coordinates are translated into addresses that are easy to understand, e.g. street name, which is why it may appear that the vehicle is parked on a street nearby if it is actually parked in an adjacent garage without GPS contact.
  • The vehicle’s position is not shown when the vehicle is not in use.
