2023 Land Rover RANGE ROVER VELAR EXITING THE VEHICLE

SINGLE LOCKING

WARNING
When exiting the vehicle, always make sure of the following to protect the safety of those inside and outside the vehicle. Park (P) gear is selected. The engine is switched off. The Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is applied. The smart key is removed from the vehicle. Failure to adhere to any of the above may lead to serious personal injuries or death.
CAUTION
No modifications or additions should be made to the security system. Such changes could cause the system to malfunction.
NOTES
  • The single locking setting should be used in circumstances when a window must be left open, e.g., if pets remain in the vehicle.
  • Always secure the vehicle when left unattended. Where possible, always secure the vehicle to the maximum available level of security.
  • In some markets, the full alarm system, including the alarm sensors, is armed when the vehicle is single-locked. The alarm sensors can be enabled and disabled, for one alarm cycle only, via the Vehicle settings menu. See INSTRUMENT PANEL MENU OPERATION. Smart key Single Locking: All doors, tailgate, and hood must be closed and the ignition must be off. To single lock the vehicle via the smart key, press the lock button on the smart key once. When the doors lock the door handles retract to the flush position. The hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that the vehicle is single-locked and the perimetric alarm is armed.
  • If any door, the tailgate, or the hood is open, or the ignition is on an audible mislock error warning sounds. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the power-fold mirrors (if enabled), do not fold in. Make sure that the ignition is switched off, and that all of the doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed properly. Lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer. Single locking secures the vehicle and prevents the doors from being opened from the outside. The doors may still be unlocked and opened from inside the vehicle.

Once armed, the alarm activates if:

  1. The hood, tailgate, or a door is opened.
  2. The engine START/STOP button is pressed without a valid smart key present.
  3. The vehicle’s battery is disconnected (if a battery-backed sounder is fitted).
  4. An attempt is made to disconnect the battery backup sounder (if fitted).

KEYLESS LOCKING

NOTES
  • The smart key may not be detected if it is inside a metal container, or is shielded by a device with a back-lit LCD screen. For example, a smartphone, or laptop, including when inside a laptop bag or a games console. Keep the smart key clear of such devices when attempting keyless entry, keyless locking, or push button start.
  • Loose coins, in the same pocket as the smart key, may also affect its detection.
  • The vehicle does not lock automatically.
  • Keyless locking activates only if the smart key is detected outside the vehicle. If no smart key is present, locking does not occur.

The vehicle has deployable door handles.

Door lock/unlock button (1) Press to lock or unlock the vehicle.

Keyless unlocking: The smart key must be in the range of the door being unlocked. To unlock the vehicle without using the smart key, press the button on any retracted door handle to unlock. When the door handle is in the deployed position, the door is unlocked.

Keyless locking: The smart key must be in the range of the door being locked. All of the doors, the tailgate, and the hood must be closed and the ignition must be switched off. To lock the vehicle using the lock/unlock button (1) press the door lock/unlock button twice within 3 seconds from any deployed door handle. When the doors lock, the door handles retract to the flush position. The hazard warning lights flash twice to confirm that the vehicle is locked and the full alarm is armed. An audible confirmation may also sound.

NOTES
If any door, the tailgate, or the hood is open, or the ignition is switched on, no audible mislock error warning sounds. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the power-fold mirrors, if enabled, do not fold in. Make sure that the ignition is switched off, and that all of the doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed properly. Lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer.

WALK-AWAY LOCKING

The walk-away locking procedure initiates when a door is opened or closed. The vehicle locks when a smart key immediately adjacent to the outside of the opened door or within the vehicle moves beyond 78 in (2 m). Without driver intervention, the vehicle centrally locks and the alarm sensors activate once walk-away locking is complete. Walk-away locking also tracks any keys inside the vehicle to make sure they are seen externally before locking. Walk-away locking can be enabled or disabled via the Vehicle menu of System Settings. See SYSTEM SETTINGS.

To adjust the walk-away locking parameters, the driver’s interior lock and unlock switch can be used when the driver’s door is open:

  1. Interior door handle. See DOOR LOCKS AND HANDLES.
  2. LOCK control. Press the LOCK control on the driver’s door twice within 3 seconds to select double locking.
    NOTES
Selecting double locking via this method lasts for one lock cycle only.
    NOTES
The double locking selection times out after 60 seconds, and a message is displayed, if the key is not detected leaving.
  3. To prevent the vehicle from automatically locking until the next ignition cycle, press the UNLOCK control on the driver’s door once after the driver’s door is opened. To cancel the locking selection and return to default locking settings, press the LOCK control (2) once on the driver’s door after it is opened.
NOTES
After each of the above selections, a confirmation message will appear on the instrument panel.
NOTES
After a vehicle journey, walk-away locking will not take place until the driver’s door is opened.
NOTES
Both temporary lock settings will revert to default once the ignition is switched on.

ALARM DEACTIVATION

It is possible to temporarily disable the activation of the alarm sensors when the vehicle is locked. When the ignition is switched off, an instructional message is displayed on the instrument panel detailing how to deactivate the alarm.

LOCK CONFIRMATION

If uncertain whether the vehicle is locked and armed, press the lock button on the smart key. With keyless entry, press an exterior door handle lock button. The hazard warning lights flash once to indicate and confirm the current lock status.

NOTES
If the vehicle is not already locked and armed, press the lock button once to lock the vehicle.

MATLOCK

When locking the vehicle with the smart key, a mislock can occur if:

  • One or more of the doors, the hood, or the tailgate are not fully closed.
  • One or more of the doors have failed to lock.
  • The vehicle’s ignition is switched on.

If any of the above are present, the vehicle does not lock and an audible mislock error warning sounds. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the power-fold mirrors, if enabled, do not fold in. Check that all of the doors, the windows, the hood, and the tailgate are closed properly. Make sure the vehicle’s ignition is switched off. Lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer.

NOTES
Operating any door handle while attempting to unlock, lock, or change the child lock status may cause the security system to ignore any requests.

DOOR LOCKS AND HANDLES

  1. Door handle: Pull to unlock or release the door. Operating a door handle on either front door unlocks all of the doors.
  2. Lock button: Press to lock. With all of the doors closed, press a lock button to lock all of the doors and the loadspace.
  3. Unlock button: Press an unlock button to unlock all of the doors and the loadspace. Alternatively, pull either front door handle (1) once to unlock all of the doors.
NOTES
If the vehicle is locked with the smart key, operating an interior door handle unlocks only that door. If the door is unlocked or opened, the alarm sounds.
NOTES
The rear door child safety locks inhibit the operation of the rear door lock and unlock buttons. See CHILD SAFETY LOCKS.

PASSIVE ARMING

When the passive arming feature is enabled, it automatically arms the perimetric alarm system 60 seconds after the driver’s door is closed. All of the other doors, the hood, and the tailgate must also be closed before passive arming enables. The ignition must also be switched off with no valid smart keys left inside the vehicle. Passive arming does not lock the vehicle, although access to the loadspace via the interior or exterior release buttons is prevented.Once the perimetric alarm is armed, if any door is opened without a valid smart key in the vicinity, the alarm sounds.

Passive arming can be enabled or disabled by a retailer/authorized repairer.

SENSOR FAULTS

If a fault is detected with a security sensor, an audible warning sounds from the alarm when the vehicle is unlocked. If this condition occurs, please visit a retailer/authorized repairer for rectification.

DEACTIVATING THE ALARM WHEN TRIGGERED

If the alarm activates, it can be deactivated by any one of the following methods:

  1. Press the unlock button on the smart key. See SMART KEY OPERATION.
  2. Open a door using keyless entry.
  3. Press the START/STOP button with a valid smart key positioned correctly. See ENGINE START BACKUP.

The cause of the last alarm activation can be displayed in the instrument panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL MENU OPERATION.

EMERGENCY LOCKING

NOTES
Do not leave the emergency key blade in the vehicle at any point during the emergency locking procedure. In the event of a fault with the alarm and/or locking system manually secure the vehicle. Lock all of the doors via the driver’s door key barrel. The emergency key blade is required for this procedure. See SMART KEY OPERATION.

Using the emergency key:

  1. Make sure all apertures are closed and insert the emergency key blade into the driver’s door key barrel.
  2. Turn the emergency key blade 90° clockwise.
  3. All of the doors single lock and access to the loadspace is inhibited.
  4. Pull the exterior door handles to check that the doors are locked. When doing so, make sure any valid smart keys are at least 6.6 ft (2 m) away from the doors. If the issue persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer for rectification as soon as possible. In the event of a discharged battery, each of the doors must be locked manually. The emergency key blade is required for this procedure. See SMART KEY OPERATION.

Using the emergency key:

  1. Open a door and locate the emergency lock’s access cover on the edge of the door. The cover has an embossed lock icon. Insert the emergency key blade into the cover’s slot. Rotate the cover counter-clockwise to first release it, then pull to remove it from the door. Keep the lock access cover safe.
  2. Insert the emergency key blade firmly into the emergency lock. A firm push activates the door’s locking mechanism. Remove the emergency key blade.
  3. Refit the emergency lock’s access cover. Rotate the cover clockwise to secure it firmly.
  4. Close the door and check that it is locked. Repeat the procedure for all other unlocked doors.
