Before exiting the vehicle, always select Park (P), switch off the ignition, apply the Electric Parking Brake (EPB), and remove any smart keys. Missing these steps may lead to serious injury or death.
No modifications or additions should be made to the security system. Such changes could cause the system to malfunction.
Before attempting to lock the vehicle, always make sure of the following:
Briefly press the lock button on the smart key to lock the vehicle and arm the perimetric alarm. The hazard warning lights flash to confirm.
Single locking secures the vehicle and prevents the doors from being opened from the outside. The doors may still be unlocked and opened from inside the vehicle.
The single locking setting should be used in circumstances when pets remain in the vehicle, or if a window must be left open.
Once armed, the alarm activates if:
Always secure the vehicle when left unattended.
In some markets, the full alarm system, including the alarm sensors, is armed when the vehicle is single-locked. The alarm sensors can be enabled and disabled, for one alarm cycle only, via the Vehicle menu in the touchscreen. See SYSTEM SETTINGS.
The smart key may not be detected if it is inside a metal container, or is shielded by a device with a back-lit LCD screen. For example, a smartphone, laptop, including when inside a laptop bag, or a games console. Keep the smart key clear of such devices when attempting keyless entry, keyless locking, or push button start.
Loose coins, in the same pocket as the smart key, can act as a shield and may affect its detection.
Keyless locking activates only if the smart key is detected outside the vehicle. If no smart key is present, locking does not occur.
The vehicle does not lock automatically.
To operate keyless locking:
Do not grip the door handle while touching the sensor. Doing so prevents the vehicle from locking.
When using keyless locking, the vehicle does not lock when:
No audible mislock error warning is given. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the power-fold mirrors, if enabled, do not fold in.
Make sure that the ignition is switched off, and that all of the doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed properly. Lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer.
If uncertain about the vehicle’s locked and armed status, press the lock button on the smart key. With keyless entry, touch a lock button on an exterior door handle. The hazard warning lights flash once to indicate and confirm the current lock status. One short flash means that the vehicle is single-locked.
When locking the vehicle with the smart key, a mislock can occur if:
If any of the above are present, the vehicle does not lock and an audible mislock error warning sounds. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the power-fold mirrors (if enabled) do not fold in. Check that all of the doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed properly. Make sure the ignition is switched off and lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer.
Operating the interior or exterior door handles, while attempting to unlock, lock, or change the child lock status of the vehicle including drive-away locking, may cause the security system to ignore any unlock, lock, or child lock requests.
While a door is open, the locking latch is exposed. If the latch has the soft-close feature, do not attempt to manually close the latch. It may automatically soft-close and trap items or body parts.
If the vehicle is locked with the smart key, operating an interior door handle unlocks only that door. If the door is opened, the alarm sounds.
The rear door child safety locks inhibit the rear door lock and unlock buttons and the interior door handles. See CHILD SAFETY LOCKS.
A clear exit monitor is a useful aid only. Open the door with due care and attention. Make sure the door is opened in a manner that is safe for the vehicle, its occupants, and other road users. Failure to open the door safely could result in injury or death.
Make sure that the clear exit warning icons and indicators are not obscured by stickers or other objects. Obscured warning icons can impair the user’s ability to utilize the feature, which could cause damage to the vehicle.
Do not attach stickers or objects to the rear bumper that may interfere with the radar sensors. Blocked sensors could impair the operation of the clear exit monitor feature, which could cause damage to the vehicle.
A clear exit monitor warns of another vehicle, or moving object approaching from behind when the door has been unlatched. Sensors in the rear bumper monitor nearby traffic. If the system determines that opening the door could be unsafe, due to passing traffic, it gives a visible warning to the occupant. The system does not prevent the door from being opened. A clear exit monitor is fitted to the rear doors only. The clear exit monitor system activates only when the door has been unlatched. The icons illuminate as follows:
The icons extinguish after the door has been closed.
The clear exit monitor system may not be able to detect all approaching traffic in all circumstances. The operation relies on the ability of the sensors to detect moving objects and this may be affected by road and weather conditions, and, also, if:
Reduced warning times or loss of functionality may be experienced under the circumstances listed above.
A clear exit monitor is available when the vehicle is stationary or traveling at less than 3 mph (5 km/h). The clear exit monitor remains active for 3 minutes after the ignition is switched off.
When the security system is armed, the battery backup sounder activates if:
If the alarm activates, it can be deactivated by any one of the following methods:
The cause of the last alarm activation can be displayed in the Vehicle menu on the touchscreen. See SYSTEM SETTINGS
Do not leave the emergency key blade in the vehicle at any point during the emergency locking procedure.
In the event of a fault with the alarm and/or locking system, manually secure the vehicle. Lock all of the doors via the driver’s door key barrel.
The emergency key blade is required for this procedure. See SMART KEY OPERATION.
Using the emergency key:
If the issue persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer for rectification as soon as possible.
In the event of the battery discharging, each of the doors must be locked manually.
The emergency key blade is required for this procedure. See SMART KEY OPERATION.
Using the emergency key:
Repeat the procedure for all other unlocked doors.
