2022 Kawasaki KX450X Exhaust System

Exhaust System

• The exhaust system, in particular the muffler body. is designed to reduce exhaust noise and conduct the exhaust gases away from the rider while minimizing power loss.
• If the muffler body is badly damaged, dented, cracked or rusted, replace it.

Muffler Mount Damper Replacement

• Remove the seat bolt and side cover bolt.

• Pull the right side cover backward to clear the hooks and remove the right side cover.

• Remove the muffler clamp bolt.
• Remove the muffler mounting bolt (rear).
• Remove the muffler mounting bolt (front) and the muffler body.

• Remove the collars and muffler mount damper.

• Replace the muffler mount damper with a new one.
• Apply soap and water solution to the muffler mount damper.
• Install the muffler mount damper and collars to the muffler body.
• Install the muffler body, and temporarily tighten the muffler clamp bolt, muffler mounting bolt (rear), and muffler mounting bolt (front).
• Face the muffler clamp bolt downward.
• Firstly, tighten the muffler mounting bolt (front).
• Secondly, tighten the muffler mounting bolt (rear).
• Lastly, tighten the muffler clamp bolt.

• Tightening Torque
  • Muffler Mounting Bolts:
    • 21 Nm (2.1 kgf m, 15 ftlb)
  • Muffler Clamp Bolt:
    • 16 N-m (1.6 kgf m, 12 ft-lb)
• Insert the hooks of the right side cover to the ribs of the radiator shroud.

• Tighten the side cover bolt and seat bolt to the specified torque.

• Tightening Torque
  • Side Cover Bolt
    • 7.0 N m (0.71 kgf m, 62 in-lb)
  • Seat Bolt
    • 25 Nm (2.5 kgfm, 18 ft:lb)
