2022 Kawasaki KX450X DFI Self-Diagnosis

DFI Self-Diagnosis

This motorcycle equips the DFI trouble self-diagnosis system. Trouble diagnosis can be conducted as the following procedures.

Self-diagnosis Outline

The ECU-connected orange warning indicator light goes on when a fault occurs in the DFl system including the ignition system and ignition system parts.
In case of serious troubles, the ECU stops the injection/ignition operation.
If a problem exists in the DFI system, the orange warning indicator light will start blinking automatically when stopping the engine. In this case, this indicator light shows a series of the service code(s) three times and then turn off with the ECU shuts down.

Self-diagnosis Procedure

  • Start the engine then stop the engine.
  • Count the blinks of the orange warning indicator light to read the service code.

A. Orange Launch Control Mode/ Warning Indicator Light

How to Read Service Codes

  • Service codes are shown by a series of long and short blinks of the orange warning indicator light as shown below.
  • Read 10th digit and unit digit as the orange warning indicator light blinks.
  • When there are a number of problems, all the service codes can be stored and the display will begin starting from the lowest number of service codes in the numerical order. Then after completing all codes, the display Is repeated three times.
  • If there Is no problem, no code, and sunlight.
  • For example, if two problems occurred in the order of 21, and 12, the service codes are displayed from the lowest number in the order listed. (1221)(12 21) * (repeated three times)
  • If the problem is With the following parts, the ECU cannot memorize these problems, the orange warning indicator light doesn’t go on, and no service codes can be displayed. ECU Power Source Wiring and Ground Wiring (see Service Manual)

NOTE
Even if the battery or the ECU is disconnected, or the problem is solved, all service codes remain in the ECU.

NOTE

  • The ECU may be involved in these problems. If all the parts and circuits are checked out well, be sure to check the ECU for ground and power supply. lf the ground and power supply are checked well, replace the ECU (see Service Manual).
  • When no service code is displayed, the electrical parts of the DFl system have no fault, and the mechanical parts of the DFI system and the engine are suspect.
