Throttle Cable
Throttle Cable Adjustment
- Inspect the throttle grip for smooth operation in all steering positions. Check and adjust the throttle cable in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart.
- Check that the throttle grip has 2 3 mm (0.08 0.12 in.) of play and turns smoothly.

- C. Throttle Cable
- If the play is incorrect, pull the rubber boot off the upper end of the throttle cable.
- Loosen the locknut on the upper end of the throttle cable and turn the adjuster to obtain the specified play. Then, tighten the locknut and reinstall the rubber boot.

- If the free play cannot be set with the adjuster on the upper end of the throttle cable, pull the rubber boot off the top of the carburetor and make the necessary free-play adjustment with the adjuster on the lower end of the cable.. Then, tighten the locknut and reinstall the rubber boot.

- With the engine idling, turn the handlebars both ways and check if handlebars movement changes idle speed. If so, the throttle cable may be improperly adjusted or incorrectly routed, or dam- aged. Be sure to correct any of these conditions before riding.
WARNING
Operation with improperly adjusted, incorrectly routed, or damaged cable could result in an unsafe riding condition. Be sure the control cable is adjusted and routed cor rectly, and is free from damage.
