2022 Kawasaki KLX140R L Throttle Cable

Throttle Cable

Throttle Cable Adjustment

Inspect the throttle grip for smooth operation in all steering positions. Check and adjust the throttle cable in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart.
Check that the throttle grip has 2 3 mm (0.08 0.12 in.) of play and turns smoothly.

1. If there is improper play, adjust it.
2. Pull the rubber boot off the upper end of the throttle cable.
3. Loosen the locknut on the upper end of the throttle cable and turn the adjuster to obtain the specified play.
4. Tighten the locknut.

5. Install the rubber boot.
6. If the free play cannot be set by adjusting the upper cable adjuster, use the adjuster on the lower end of the cable.
7. Remove the side covers and the seat. (see Battery Removal)
8. Remove the bolts and screw, and pull the right side of the fuel tank cover-up temporarily.A. Bolts

9. Pull the rubber boot off the top of the carburetor and make the necessary free-play adjustment with the adjuster on the lower end of the throttle cable.Then, tighten the locknut and reinstall the rubber boot.A. Rubber Boot

10. Check if the throttle grip moves smoothly from fully open to close, and the throttle closes quickly and completely in all steering positions by the return spring. If not, check the throttle cable routing, grip free play, and cable damage. Then lubricate the throttle cable.
11. With the engine idling, turn the handlebar both ways and check if handlebar movement changes the idling speed. If so, the throttle cable may be improperly adjusted or incorrectly routed, or damaged. Be sure to correct any of these conditions before riding.
12. Reinstall the parts removed.

Operation with improperly adjusted, in- correctly routed, or damaged cables could result in an unsafe riding condition. Be sure the control cables are adjusted and routed correctly and are free from damage.
