Before exiting the vehicle, select Park P, switch the engine off, apply the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) and remove the smart key from the vehicle. These steps make sure that the vehicle is securely located and not subject to unexpected movement. Unexpected movement could cause injury and vehicle damage. Single locking secures the vehicle and prevents the doors from being opened from the outside. The doors may still be unlocked and opened from inside the vehicle. In this state, only the perimetric alarm is activated. See PERIMETRIC ALARM. Briefly press the lock button on the smart key to lock the vehicle and arm the perimetric alarm. The hazard warning lights flash to confirm.
Always secure the vehicle when left unattended. Where possible, always secure the vehicle to the maximum available level of security.
The smart key may not be detected if it is inside a metal container, or is shielded by a device with a back-lit LCD screen. For example a smartphone, or laptop, including when inside a laptop bag or a games console. Keep the smart key clear of such devices when attempting keyless entry, keyless locking, or keyless starting.
Keyless locking activates only if the smart key is detected outside the vehicle. If no smart key is present, locking does not occur.
When locking the vehicle via keyless locking, the vehicle does not lock if one or more of the doors, the hood, the trunk, or the tailgate are not fully closed. The vehicle does not lock if the ignition is switched on.
Loose coins, in the same pocket as the smart key, may also affect its detection. When the door handle is in the deployed position, the door is unlocked. To lock the vehicle without using the smart key, press the deployed door handle. The door handle retracts to the flush position. The hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that the vehicle is locked and the perimetric alarm is armed.
When locking the vehicle with the smart key, a mislock can occur if:
If any of the above are present, the vehicle does not lock and an audible mislock error warning sounds. The hazard warning lights do not flash and the door mirrors, if enabled, do not fold in. Check that all of the doors, the hood, and the trunk lid or tailgate are closed properly. Make sure the ignition is switched off and lock the vehicle again. If the mislock persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer.
The door handles automatically deploy on both doors.
The door handles automatically retract to the flush position on both doors.
If the vehicle is locked with the smart key, operating an interior door handle unlocks only that door. If the door is opened, the alarm sounds.
A handle in the retracted flush position indicates a locked door or a vehicle speed above 5 mph (8 km/h).
No modifications or additions should be made to the anti-theft system. Such changes could cause the system to malfunction.
The perimetric alarm system arms when the vehicle is locked. See LOCKING.
Once armed, the alarm system sounds if:
If the passive arming feature is enabled, it automatically arms the perimetric alarm system 60 seconds after the driver’s door is closed. The passive arming feature requires both front doors and the trunk lid or tailgate to be closed. The ignition must also be switched off with no valid smart keys inside the vehicle.
Passive arming does not lock the vehicle, although access to the trunk, via the interior or exterior release buttons, is prevented. The locking fuel filler flap will lock.
Passive arming can be enabled or disabled by a retailer/authorized repairer.
The battery backup sounder sounds the alarm if the vehicle’s battery or the alarm sounder is disconnected when the security system is armed.
DEACTIVATING THE ALARM WHEN TRIGGERED
If the alarm activates, it can be deactivated by any one of the following methods:
The cause of the last alarm activation can be displayed in the instrument panel. See VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT PANEL.
Do not leave the emergency key blade in the vehicle at any point during the emergency locking procedure.
In the event of an alarm or locking system fault, lock the doors via the driver’s door key barrel to manually secure the vehicle.
The emergency key blade is required for this procedure. See SMART KEY OPERATION.
Using the emergency key:
If the issue persists, consult a retailer/authorized repairer for rectification as soon as possible.
In the event of the battery discharging, each of the doors must be locked manually.
The emergency key blade is required for this procedure.
Using the emergency key:
Repeat the procedure for all other unlocked doors.
