Breaking Down To Go Home
At the campsite, there will be basic steps to breaking down camp when preparing to go home:
- Turn OFF the water heater.
- Dump and flush all tanks if connected to a full-service campsite. Dump and flush the waste tanks at an appropriate dump station if not available on the campsite. Chemically treat the tanks for storage.
- CLOSE the holding tank gate valves and secure the drain termination cap.
- Disconnect and clean the sewer hose and place it in storage.
- Disconnect television coax cables.
- Raise stabilizer jacks and/or leveling jacks. Store leveling blocks and wooden foot pads if applicable.
- Verify Suspension Air Bags (if equipped) is fully inflated and a motorhome is a level.
- Disconnect the water hose from the RV and the external water source. Replace the connection cap. Store the hose.
- Turn OFF the LP gas supply.
- Snap the range hood vent closed if applicable.
- Turn OFF remaining appliances including air conditioner, furnace, televisions, radios, and fireplaces.
- Prepare refrigerator as required for traveling.
- Turn OFF the water pump.
- Lower television antenna and/or satellite if applicable. Turn OFF the signal amplifier.
- Lower roof vents and exhaust fans. Turn OFF.
- Close all windows and secure blinds/shades.
- Verify that all free-standing equipment and furniture inside the RV is secured into place.
- Verify that all interior passage doors, shower doors, sliding mirror doors, etc. are secured and latched.
- Verify that all cabinet doors and drawers are secured and latched.
- Close the awning(s). Secure in place if required.
- Turn OFF the main 120VAC breaker in the power center.
- Turn OFF 12VDC interior lights.
- Clean debris from slide-out roofs. Verify there are no internal obstructions to retraction. Close the slide-outs. Install travel locks on the slide-outs if required.
- Disconnect the power cord from the shore power. Store the power cord and surge protector.
- Remove the wheel chocks.
- Close and lock all exterior compartment doors.
- Verify that all taillights, brake lights, headlights, and turn signal lights are functioning properly.
- Check the campsite for items left behind. Make sure that you left it clean and safe for the next campers.
- Close the entry step.
- Close the entry door securely and lock it for travel.
When you get home:
- Drain the water heater.
- Drain freshwater system.
- Disconnect on-board house battery.
- The empty refrigerator of all food.
- Prop refrigerator door open.
