Spark Arrester
This vehicle is equipped with a spark arrester. It must be properly maintained to ensure its efficiency. In accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart, clean the spark arrester.
NOTICE
The spark arrester must be installed correctly and functioning properly to provide adequate fire protection.
Spark Arrester Cleaning
WARNING
Hot exhaust system parts can cause serious burns. The exhaust system becomes very hot soon after the engine is started. To avoid burns, be sure the exhaust system is cold before cleaning the spark arrester. Remove the muffler end cover bolts and muffler end cover.

Insert a flat tip screwdriver between the spark arrester plate and muffler to ply up the spark arrester evenly and gradually.

Remove the spark arrester and spacer from the muffler

B. Gasket
- With a wire brush, remove the carbon off the inside of the spark arrester and muffler.
- Replace the gasket with a new one.
- Install the spark arrester and spacer into the rear end of the muffler so that aligns three bolt holes.
- Install the muffler end cover over the spark ar- rester.
- Tighten the muffler end cover bolts two times with the specified torque.
Tightening Torque
Muffler End Cover Bolts: 15 Nm (1.5 kgfm, 11 ftb)
